Enlightened

On Sunday my pastor showed some greek bible verses and was trying to explain to meaning of some of the words.

Romans 12:3 looks something like this

Galatians 2:20 looks like this

hahaha, i don't know leh... Chris and I found them very familiar LOL so can read a bit but don't understand la hahaha but some of the words can guess guess Χριστός should mean Christ since it is read as "Christos" and ἀγαπήσαντός is AGAPE something hahaha

this website is quite good, it gives the pronunciation and translation.

cool... v cool... no wonder the labarum symbol used by catholics always has the greek symbol Χ (chi- promounced kai) and ρ (rho - pronounced roe)... cos they are the first two letters of Christ...

the two on the left and right should be alpha and omega... hm...

and last time i didn't like it when people wrote X'mas instead of Christmas but i realised that the X in X'mas is actually chi, not x so it still means CHRIST MASS... hm...

Lotus Root and Huai Shan Soup ^^

sorry my i-phone pic is OOF =P

This is easy to make and i love eating the huai shan ^^

ingredients:
chicken (half, cut into pieces, skinned, scalded in hot water to remove blood and bad smell)
lotus root (one section, sliced thickly)
fresh huai shan (about 15 cm, peeled and cut into chunks) - i don't know what this is called in English neh... in japanese it's called yama imo which means mountain yam. it looks like this before peeling

dried octopus (1, rinsed) you can buy this from the dried food section of supermarkets, usually with ikan bilis, white fungus and stuff
groundnuts (2 handfuls, rinsed)
water (3-4 cups, enough to cover ingredients)

place all ingredients into a pot and bring to boil, then simmer for 2.5 hours. add salt to taste (the octopus will make it salty so just a bit of salt will do. you can skip the salt if you don't want to add)

CAUTION: when you handle huai shan, do wear gloves. if you touch the flesh, you'd ITCH >.<|||

serve immeidately ^^

Movenpick Ice Cream ^^

No matter how tasty Haagen Daz and B&J are, when you buy a tub home, somehow, after a while, the ice cream turns ROCK HARD and doesn't taste as good. I realised that Movenpick does not. It could be the tub they use. I bought a tub of strawberry ice cream (which is very nice! with real strawberry bits) and two weeks later, when i opened it and tried to scoop out, the consistency is still the same, as though i just opened it! nice ^^

Cordyceps

I don't know if you guys take this Chinese herb. In Chinese, it's called dong chong xia cao which literally means "winter worm summer grass" but it's actually a fungus (like mushrooms). you double-boil it with chicken and usually ginseng and it's supposed to be very nourishing. benefits include the following:

Enhancing and strengthening of the immune system. Cordyceps is supposed to increase the number of the Natural Killer Cells, which are responsible for the body defense against viruses and bacteria. Some trials show that the fungus works effectively in leukemia stricken individuals.

Improving sexual function in men and increasing libido by stimulating the production of sex hormones. Cordyceps may also be a means for fighting female infertility. Wow, so couples trying to have a baby should take this hor?

Building muscles and improving physical performance. Those Chinese athletes, who use Cordyceps, tend to show better results than the other sportsmen.

Providing anti-aging and fatigue reducing effects. The fungus works as an antioxidant and increases cellular formation, especially in the elderly patients. It also promotes more restful sleep, soothes the nervous system, and reduces anxiety, thus working as a sedative. This one i like! =D

Improving the respiratory function. Cordyceps shows good results in fighting against cough, chronic bronchitis and asthma, since it relaxes bronchial walls and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Enhancing cellular oxygen uptake. This benefits all the body systems, giving them more energy and vitality.

Benefiting vascular system by improving circulation, regulating blood pressure, and strengthening the heart muscle.

Protecting liver and kidneys. Cordyceps improves blood flow to these organs (as well as to the others), which results in their better activity and ability to fight the diseases, including Hepatitis and chronic kidney disease.

Cordyceps is said to be safe and has no side effects. However, pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as children are not recommended to use it, since no studies have been conducted in such persons.

here's the source of the info above.

Sounds amazing? well, it doesn't come cheap. i usually buy tibetan ones (my MIL says they're good) and since i don't know how to choose, i will buy from ZTP or hock hua and choose the most expensive or second most expensive types LOL i only buy when there's 20% off. one box of about 30+ sticks costs about $380 and each time i use about 6 to make 3 bowls. it's a very expensive soup but my MIL says it's good so i will make it.

Qing Hai is a major supplier of cordyceps as well and the news reported that because of the earthquake, there'll be a huge shortage and the price may rocket up to a few times the usual price... hm... but i also watched on TV that apparently, Malaysia managed to culture cordyceps... hm...

Stressed...

sheesh... very stressed... last night over dinner, my father-in-law suddenly brought up THE TOPIC again... he said he wants to "live to see his children's children" he quoted scripture...

"May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, and may you live to see your children's children.
Peace be upon Israel." Psalm 128: 5-6

"Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." Proverbs 17:6

and that Abraham's descendents are supposed to be as numerous as the stars in the sky so as Christians, we should propagate...

o... k...

then he prayed and asked God to "convict our hearts"

wa... v stressed...

Thank You Speech

On weekends when i need to sing in church (sat 5pm, sun 0930 and 1130), chris will offer to help me clean up the house. like children, husbands need constant encouragement, recognition and assurance...

me: thanks dear, you are a very good husband ^^
chris: 世界いち (sekai ichi) ah?? (world no. 1)
me: yeah, sekai ichi!

then he'd start his thank you speech... LOL
chris: 謝謝你給於我的肯定和支持!謝謝你給我這個機會得這個奬,我會努力的! (thanks for your recognition and support! thanks for giving me the opportunity to win this award! I will continue to work hard!) ^^

Boys vs Men

My bento buddy (BB) likes everything korean and japanese (she can speak both la)... so last night she was giving us an update of the korean music scene... apparently the wondergirls is old news le, now the newest is the SUPERJUNIOR-M which is a spin-off from the successful SUPERJUNIOR (which i have never heard of -.-)

basically, they get a couple of average-looking (i don't find them exceptionally good looking leh) boys, give them a make-over, teach them some cool dance moves (which of cos in the first place they must be able to execute i suppose... so those with two left feet need not apply la) to some addictive tune then mass market them and they'll rise to stardom.

following the popularity of superjunior, they came up with superjunior-M to break into the chinese (taiwanese) market. everything is the same except that they're koreans who sing in MANDARIN (hence the M) in my opinion, quite painful to watch >.< firstly, the verses are monotonous, secondly, their diction, thirdly the techno music =P

they look more like geen nahs to me neh...

i prefer older guys like takeshi kaneshiro (37), face of clarins

takuya kimura (38), father of two

lee byung hyung (40) and his hot bod

jerry yen (33) and his dimples (he is looking cool here)

josh harnett (31) and his mesmerising eyes

even george clooney (49)... hahaha

these are real MEN... i think they look better as they age cos they have more charisma

oh, but i like zac efron after watching him in "17 again" in which he was a 37-year-old trapped in a 17-year-old body... k, i guess that's still considered older men LOL

GG Day

Golly... what a GG Day my BB (bento buddy) and i had today >.<

we had a big event today so in the morning we had a list of about 15 things to do by 1205pm one of which was to burn a CD of songs. i tried doing it last night at home...

me: dear, got blank CD?
chris: no, only DVD
me: sheesh...

i was very sure my IT Manager will have so i decided to do it in school the next day...

me: hey ken, got blank CD?
ken: no leh... only DVD...

sheesh... so i had to go and buy... heng ah downstairs bookshop had...

then during the big event, it was really bing bing biang biang! we were like two siao char bor like that... run here run there... hahaha

then in the evening, BB had to send a poster design (which we outsourced to someone to do) to print...

at about 5+ i got a missed call from BB... then BB texted me

BB: AAHHH!! "preliminary" spelt wrongly!! ah!!!!

i opened the document and scrutinised it.... AAAAHHHHH!!!!! the "vendor" spelt it as "PRELIMARY" and NO ONE NOTICED!!!! BB, Pat and i looked at the poster it and didn't notice!!!!! AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! so i tried to edit it but die lah, i don't know how to use Photoshop!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!! i tried to change it but couldn't because the font could not be found... tried calling "vendor" she didn't pick up phone >.< called royston.... no answer... called kelvin... no answer... called goodest bestest friend jiahui the photoshop expert she kee lee koo loo i don't understand...

then CG my cubicle neighbour tried to do research on the internet to learn photoshop in 5 mins LOL

Yvonne came and tried to click here click there... no use...

i hollered across office...

me: ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO USE PHOTOSHOP??????

no answer...

going to gib up le then i suddenly remembered a group of people who can help... called erfie...

me: eh, you still around?
erfie: ya, in club room...
me: HELP!!!!!

so erfie came and within one minute settled the problem =/

then i tried to email the JPG to BB but stupid file too big sending failed...

Staying Current

If you don't know some modern lingo, you'd be considered very "out" by the younger generation... here are some i have picked up:

CMI - cannot make it: means "not up to mark"

Example: The restaurant's service is very cmi! =(

GG - good game: means "that's it!" or "die" or "gone case"

Example: I din study for my test neh, GG liao.

HTHT - heart to heart talk: means "heart to heart talk" la!! i.e. tête-à-tête

Example: During the camp, they had a HTHT or Let's have a HTHT!! *girly excitement*

BHB - buay hiao bai: means: "no sense of shame" basically saying someone is not humble, used to describe someone who overtly praises oneself

Example: He is very BHB one neh, always say he is most hamson.

Pao Toh - to tell on [someone]

Example: You pao toh me! told teacher i cheat in test!

Tai Koh - by luck

Example: *someone shoots in a 3-pointer in basketball* ai ya, he tai koh one la

imba - imbalanced: means "elite, awesome, the best, unbeatable"

Example: His singing is imba, man.

Got any more? share leh? need to stay current, if not they will say got generation gap...

Ler Gio Simi?

means "What are you called (by)?" which is basically, "What is your name?" in hokkien

Golly... we saw this pamphlet chucked between the groove of the gate hinge ( we get lots of these) and i usually just dump them but i couldn't help but take a second look at this person's name: CASSINO -.-???!!!

firstly, this person cannot spell. secondly, what a weird name!! what kind of name is this?? does he like to gamble? or is he riding on the IR wave? or what? and i wonder if his parents gave him that name... i think i will serious be very upset with my parents if they named me Cassino... and i wonder if he has siblings called Roullette, Jackkpot or Pokker -.-

talking about names... i was told by someone that her grandpa or father (can't rmb) was named 雞屎 (ji1shi3) as in "chicken droppings". yes, i'm not kidding... she said it's cos in the past, in rural areas, people believed that the more horrible and bad-sounding your name is, the better your life will be (as in you will have more blessings)... hm... wonder what he would have been called if his surname is 牛 niu(cow)...

in recent years, i see more and more unique names such as Cheyenne. you try to pronounce see see... is it Chay Yen? or Chay Yenni? all wrong!... it's SHAIYEN! there are also more names with unique spellings *look at my brother* such as Remund (as opposed to Raymond) and Kirstyn (Kirsten)... my colleague asked me, "how you pronounce your nieces' names ha?" my mum just can't get it... and it doesn't help that they're identical hahaha... she calls them by their chinese names. for older people, even simple names like Melvin can become "mare bin" LOL

and in Singapore, when you give your kid a name, you better read it in all the major dialects to ensure that it doesn't sound profane otherwise the poor kid will be laughed at from primary school through to NS. hahaha...

MBP vs MBA

hm... lately (actually not lately la, it's been a while le) i have been feeling that my MBA is a bit slow, laggy and cannot support my bulk of photos, editing and especially presentations, video etc. it's painful >.<

so i complained to chris and he suggested that i buy the MBP 13" because compared to a new MBA, for a cheaper price, i can get better specs on a MBP. but the MBP 13" is much heavier than MBA. MBA is slim and sexeh... haiz... but i bopian... so gotta trade sleek slimness for MBP's practicality.

i guess MBA is like your hot girlfriend and MBP 13" is like your faithful wife ba... hm...

but sianz, whole singapore out of stock neh. i don't believe this. singaporeans v copy cat one neh... i buy MBP they also want to buy... TSK!

Siao Ah!

Bishan maisonette sold for $900,000. Read more.

This is MADNESS! it's insane!!! for a HDB flat??? -.-

i was also told that an indonesian Chinese bought 20 units of astuary at Yishun. yes, i didn't type wrongly... TWENTY. hwa kao! machiam like buy eggs... er hello, gimme 20... i don't even buy eggs in 20s -.-

last time a friend told me she knows of a tai tai who upon hearing that a cluster of bungalows are selling for $1.5m each exclaimed, "so cheap!! give me 2!"

-.-

what's with these people ha? and here i was trying to save $200 by taking jetstar to taiwan and suffering the discomfort of clausphobia -.-

you know who are the most affected one anot? those genuine young couple buyers who are not poor enough to buy new HDB flat (cos combined income > $8k) but not rich enough to buy condo. with such resale market, they're really cham... haiz.

i don't want to think how much housing will cost when my nieces have to buy a house... tsk tsk tsk

Mum, Kirstyn and Gwyneth's Birthday Celebration

My mum's birthday and nieces' birthday are 10 days apart so we celebrated their birthdays together at a Teochew restaurant. Not those fancy ones (like imperial treasures) cos my mum will complain expensive LOL

my nieces are super cute... =) and i had the honour of sitting beside kirstyn the cutie pie =DDD gwyneth is in her usually supermodel diva mood hahaha...

here's a simple video i put together using keynote =) see, when you're busy with two kids, it helps to have a sibling who is comparatively more free hahaha and overly enthu about photography and videos =D hehehe...

chris' comment: "i have no comments. you are a very very kuazhang gugu!" and he doesn't want to imagine the things i'd do (paparazzi, video, buy things, chute all sorts of patterns) if we have our own kids... he said he'd be speechless LOL

Choo Choo Cake

My nieces' choo choo cake from coffee bean ^^

frankly speaking, looks super cute but tastes ok only la. the icing is super sweet >.< hahaha but cute lor and from the way they kept looking at it (and ignoring the lego duplo that my kor was frantically waving at them), they like it =)

Lego Duplo

yay yay!! my nieces 2nd birthday is coming so i can FINALLY buy them the lego duplo set for ages 2-5!!! yay yay! i wanted to buy this like one year ago hehehe cos i think lego is good for children as it develops their creativity =) there aren't many choices for girls so i got the lego duplo family set... the box is very big man... like a 24" monitor big >.<

they can push baby in pram, bathe baby, sit on swing, go to sleep, water flower etc etc... like so fun!!! =D
